The Top Five Performances in College Basketball: Week 1

We are one week into the College Basketball season, and there have already been some extremely impressive performances on the hardwood so far this season. In the NIL era, college sports are always changing... and college basketball might be the sport that's affected the most. These kids might not be making as much money as their CFB counterparts, but the sport involves 265 D1 teams, and nearly 40% of D1 players entered the transfer portal this offseason. My point is... this sport is constantly changing, so let me fill you in on some of the best performances out there on the court during the first week of the season.

1. Koa Peat (Arizona, Freshman Forward)

Historic debut: 30 points (11-18 FG), 7 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals in a 93-87 upset over No. 3 Florida. Followed with 18 points (6-7 FG) vs. Utah Tech. Arguably the best freshman splash all week.

2. Bruce Thornton (Ohio State, Senior Guard)

Story image
Career-high explosion: 38 points (14-17 FG, 5-8 3PT), 5 rebounds, 5 assists in a 92-69 rout of Purdue Fort Wayne. Efficient scoring clinic that vaulted him up OSU's all-time list. Bruce is clearly one of the best seniors in the country.

3. Neoklis "Neo" Avdalas (Virginia Tech, Freshman Guard)

Story image
Electric international debut: 33 points (13-23 FG, 5-8 3PT), 6 assists, 5 rebounds in a thrilling 107-101 win over Providence. Playmaking and shooting from deep announced him as a star, and John Fanta called him a lottery pick in this upcoming NBA draft multiple times during the broadcast this past weekend. Neo is legit, and one of, if not the best freshman in the ACC.

4. Caleb Wilson (North Carolina, Freshman Forward)

Story image
Poise beyond years: 24 points (9-12 FG), 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals vs. No. 19 Kansas in an 87-74 statement win. Added 22 points in the opener—first Tar Heel with 20+ in his first two games.

5. Christian Anderson (Texas Tech, Sophomore Guard)

Story image
Near-triple-double mastery: 34 points (11-23 FG, 3-7 3PT), 11 assists, 7 rebounds, 4 steals in a 98-60 blowout of Lindenwood. Career-best command of the offense, and Christian is looking like the star on one of the best teams in the country through the first week of the season.
